I posted the question on Facebook: How has yoga touched your life? What has it done for you?
(I got amazing responses. So amazing and wide-ranging, I can't even summarize.)
Of course, I have to answer the question myself.
Yoga...
-Taught me how to manage depression
-Then later taught me how to manage anxiety
-Provided intense and clear insight into my life and then gave me the strength to reroute it completely
-Introduced me to a more authentic version of myself
-Turned my world upside down (figuratively and literally--handstands till I'm 90)
-Supported me through the craziest years of my life (mentally and financially)
-Introduced me to my husband
-Introduced me to my closest friends
-Introduced me to all the amazing people who show up on their mats constantly to breathe, explore and grow
-Injured my hamstring and taught me the importance of moving mindfully
-Taught me that balance is a lifelong pursuit, a never-ending opportunity to grow
-Made me so flexible I had to embrace strength training (squats, deadlifts, etc.) which in turn taught me yet another lesson about balance
-Healed bulges in my low back
-Pretty much cured me of migraines
-Gives me an excuse to wear yoga pants all the time
-Got me out of my comfort zone
-In a very round about way gave me heat exhaustion (not through actual practice but as a result of being in a sweat lodge too long during a teacher training #liveandlearn)
-Gives me a chance to share the power of this practice through teaching
-Became my best outlet for creative expression through practice and teaching
The list could go on and on and on....
